Beginning in September, the Kearney Matcats will now have a “Fall/Preseason Program.” This program will be designed to get wrestlers a jump start on the upcoming season. This is intended for serious wrestlers with the expectation that wrestlers have had previous wrestling experience.

• Ages: 6th-12th Grade (3rd-5th graders are allowed with previous wrestling experience)

  • Note: These practices will be geared toward a more experienced wrestler. New or Novice wrestlers are encouraged to join the Kearney Matcats Regular Season Program that begins in January.​

• 10-Week Program:

  • Sundays - 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM​

  • Tuesdays - 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM

• Location: Kearney High School​

• ​Includes: Full USA Wrestling Athlete Membership​​

  

The Competitive Season is for those wrestlers who have had previous wrestling experience (ideally 2 or more years) and are ready to take a jump in their training. These practices will be run at a faster pace and focus on a higher level of technique. The “regular version” DOES NOT include practices in November and December. It INCLUDES Monday night practices from January to mid-March (NEUSA State) plus all regular season practices on Tuesday/Thursday. This is ideal for 7th/8th graders who enjoyed their middle school season and want to continue to jump levels and prepare for high school wrestling, as well as all 3rd-6th graders ready to take their wrestling to the next level.

This program is ideal for all 3rd-8th graders with all levels of wrestling experience. At this level, we continue to focus on learning the fundamentals of wrestling as well as start to incorporate some more advanced techniques and drills. These practices are designed with wrestlers of all skill levels in mind

  • Practices Tuesdays/Thursdays​

    • 3rd to 5th Grade - 6:00 PM - 7:15 PM

    • 6th - 8th Grade - 7:30 PM - 8:45 PM

Beginning in March (After NEUSA State), the Kearney Matcats will now have a Spring Program.” This program will focus on all three styles of wrestling (Folkstyle, Freestyle, and Greco-Roman). Specifically, we will focus on how learning the “International Styles” of wrestling can make you a better folkstyle wrestler. This is intended for serious wrestlers with the expectation that wrestlers have had previous wrestling experience.

• Ages: 6th-12th Grade (3rd-5th graders are allowed with previous wrestling experience)

  • Note: These practices will be geared toward a more experienced wrestler. New or Novice wrestlers are encouraged to join the Kearney Matcats Regular Season Program that begins in January.​

  • Tuesdays/Thursdays: 6:15 to 7:45 PM (Nov. 19 - Jan. 2)

  • Mondays: 6:00 to 7:30 PM (Jan 6 - March 10)

  • Tuesdays/Thursdays regular season practices

  • Location: Kearney High School

This program is ideal for all PreK-2nd graders with all levels of wrestling experience. At this level, we focus on learning the fundamentals of wrestling including basic body movements, foundational wrestling moves, scoring, and of course having fun!

• Ages: 3rd-8th Grade

• 10-Week Program

    • Pre-K & Kindergarten - 6:00 PM - 6:45 PM

    • 1st & 2nd Grade - 7:00 PM - 7:45 PM​​

• ​If girls would like to take part in the Tuesday/Thursday practices as well, they may sign up for the "Competitive Program" and then attend the girls-only practices on Mondays/Wednesday
